Immersive Music Challenge - Advisor Bios

 Dr. Anne Rardin

 

ANNE RARDIN, aka Dr. R., hails from Oklahoma & Texas, where she began teaching over 30 years ago at the University of Texas String Project. After graduating with a Masters in Music Education and Bachelor in Performance at the Eastman School of Music, she has taught instrumental music programs in NY and Austin TX. A Doctorate in Music Education and the opportunity to study violin with Eudice Shapiro, Elizabeth Blumenstock, and James Tyler brought her to Los Angeles. Since that time Dr. R has been music director of several large El Sistema-inspired programs throughout the LA area for Harmony Project. As of 2019, she directs the orchestra program at Pasadena High School. Dr. R. has also been on the faculties of Cal State Northridge (CSN), University of Southern California (USC), and Claremont Graduate University (CGU), teaching music education courses and Baroque Performance Practice. In addition, she has conducted professional development and conference presentations for many organizations, such as LAUSD, SCSBOA, LA Phil, Southwest Chamber Music, Harmony Project National Division, CASMEC, Education through Music LA, and the American String Teachers Association (ASTA). She is a member of the National ASTA Health and Wellness Committee, which put together a recent document on vision, musculoskeletal, and vocal health issues. An active Early Music specialist, she has enjoyed performing with Rachel Podger, Giovanni Antonini, Tony Bennet, Julie Andrews, Willie Nelson, Johnny Mathis, Randy & Michael Brecker, Marvin Hamlisch, and Branford Marsalis. She can be heard on NCA label with Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra, with the faculty ensemble of CGU-Concordia Clarimontis, on Bob’s Burgers and Spy Kids soundtracks.
